Spay & Neuter
Services
Spay (Ovariohysterectomy)
Spaying is the removal of the reproductive organs in female dogs and cats. We perform this procedure throughout the week. For a spay appointment, the animal must be dropped off in the morning between 8am and 8:30am and can be picked back up the same evening between 3:30pm and 4pm. Most spay patients go home the same day, barring any complications. When scheduling a spay appointment, please allow a week to two weeks notice. It is important to withhold food the night before after midnight. The pet can have dinner early and water is allowed up until drop off.
If your pet is in the early stage of pregnancy, the spay can have additional costs. Also, if your pet is in heat or showing any signs of heat, the spay will be postponed for a couple months. It is important to postpone for the animals health.
This surgery is performed by entering the abdominal cavity and removing the reproductive organs. To close, we use internal sutures so there is no outer sutures to be removed. It is vital to restrict your pets exercise after any abdominal surgery. We also recommend using our laser therapy for an additional fee to increase cell activity at the incision site to promote healing. Last, we send home a pain regiment to be given for 5 days after surgery. It is important to give all the medication because it is also an anti inflammatory.
After surgery, we recommend restricting any activity for 14 days, including no baths, leash walks only and no jumping. It is very important to keep them restricted to ensure the sutures stay in place and your pet can recover as quickly as possible. If you ever have any questions or concerns after the procedure, please call us at 217-826-3185.
Neuter (Castration)
Neuter is the removal of the reproductive organs in male dogs and cats. We perform this procedure throughout the week. For a neuter appointment, the animal must be dropped off in the morning between 8am and 8:30am and can be picked back up the same evening between 3:30pm and 4pm. Most neuter patients go home the same day, barring any complications. When scheduling a neuter appointment, please allow a week to two weeks notice. It is important to withhold food the night before after midnight. The pet can have dinner early and water is allowed up until drop off.
A neuter is a minimally invasive surgery to remove the testicles. We use an internal suture method, which means there is no need to bring the pet back for a suture removal. Restrictions to go home include rest for 5-7 days, no bathing for 14 days and leash walks only with no jumping. If you ever have any questions, please call.
